In conjunction with BBQ, Blues & Boogie, a nationally sanctioned BBQ competition, this living history event draws the best old time musicians from several states. This is not bluegrass music, but the roots from which it and country music sprung.
Friday night starts the festival with a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Chris Ryan will roar back into Calhoun to demonstrate his great love and dedication to this rollicking local fiddle tuneage, ably backed by Van Burchfield, who many know as a fine multi-instrumentalist. Throw in the Georgia Crackers and add real-deal vintage-jazz clarinetist Dub Hudson...Oh Brother, get thee to Calhoun!
Saturday, the festival starts at 11 a.m. with a discussion and entertainment with Laney House and Mick & Evan Kinney. Competitions for singing, dancing, banjo, string bands and fiddle will be held in the Ratner Theater from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. $10 general admission. Monetary prizes.
Camping available for $10 per person per night. Call (706) 629-2599 to reserve.
