St. Patrick's Day in Savannah Georgia

Bookmark and Share

If you can’t swing a trip to Ireland next year for St. Patrick’s Day, consider Savannah, Georgia instead. The city hosts the largest St. Patrick’s Day party in the South over several days, with a parade, green fountain and lots of flowing beer on this day when everyone is Irish. You’ll want to get an early start in Savannah, as excitement for the events builds even before the celebration begins. The 2010 events included: Tara Feis, a family-oriented Irish-culture festival held in Emmet Park; the River Street celebration, a central waterfront location for partygoers; and the City Market celebration, another two-day party in the Historic District. Of course, you won’t want to miss the St. Patrick’s Day parade (this year was the 186th edition), one of the oldest in the United States, featuring bands and marching groups from across the country. Savannah has dozens of great inns and hotels to stay during your trip, but be sure to check out The Mansion on Forsyth Park and the Azalea Inn & Gardens  , both of which are located in historic downtown Savannah.
