Atlanta Museum and Arts Weekend

The Atlanta Museum and Arts weekend is great for a long weekend in the city. Start your day at the High Museum of Art, where there are always great exhibits to see. When you're hungry enough, head south just a few miles and eat at either Mary Mac's or The Varsity, both of which are famous Atlanta eateries. Once you're full (and you will be!), head to the Center for Puppetry Arts, where adults and children alike can experience the world of puppetry. Choosing your evening activities can be difficult, with the Fox Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Ballet, and Atlanta Opera all within a few miles of each other. You'll want to see what's in season before you go, but be sure to check out at least a few of these fabulous venues. Plan to stay at either the W Atlanta Midtown, or the historic Georgian Terrace Hotel. Either choice will be a luxurious experience. For your second day, make sure you visit Callanwold Fine Arts Center, which offers classes for all ages and special performances year round. From there, head downtown to the APEX Museum, an African American panoramic experience with quarterly changes to the exhibits. For dinner on your second night, try Watershed, located in Decatur, just a few minutes east of Atlanta. You can't beat their fried chicken (get there early, because they can run out due to its' immense popularity). After dinner, catch an improv show at Dad's Garage (Thursday-Saturday nights) or try to catch a show at one of the venues you missed the previous night.
