St. Simons Island is home to the 2017 HGTV Dream Home. The 3,600 sq. ft. home, valued at $1.2 million, is located in the island’s Sea Palms neighborhood.
The grounds are filled with plenty of space for kids to run while older children and adults explore the history of Fort Frederica, a strategic stronghold for the British during the early 1700s colonization of Georgia. Admission to the park is free.

Set among the grass and moss covered live oaks is a church whose roots on the island were formed when Gen. James Oglethorpe first held church services on St. Simons Island in 1736. The church was founded in 1808. For a long time, it was the only church on the island. Each year the Church hosts the Christ Church Tour of Homes, a great way to see how folks live year round on St. Simons Island.

Bring your walking shoes, bug spray, and a hat to help you prepare for a day exploring the 600-acre grounds of Cannon’s Point Preserve. The take only pictures, leave only footprints policy is in full effect at the preserve but don’t worry, there’s plenty of things to see and photograph including 19th Century plantation ruins. Restrooms are available on site.

Winning the HGTV Dream Home also means that you get a 2017 Honda Pilot. If you don’t win the sweepstakes, you can still travel around St. Simons Island in style. There are a number of trolley tours of the island available. To see the island from a different perspective, take a boat tour to see St. Simons and nearby Jekyll Island from the water.
