Nestled in the northwest corner of Elbert County, the City of Bowman is Elbert County's only other incorporated city.  Bowman is approximately 13 miles from tthe county seat of Elberton.

Before the city was founded in 1878 ait was a huge stand of trees.  It was incorporated in 1907.  In 1875, a road was started to connect the city of Elberton with the city of Toccoa.  This road passed through was to become the city of Boman.  A train depot was build along this road and named after Colonel Thomas J. Bowman, who had surveyed the land around the railroad.  When the first tain passed thourgh in 1878, the only buildings were a depot and storehouse.  The railroad brought a need for a hotel. a well-known structure was the Bowman Well House.  The original well structure was built by Goshen John Bowers before 1906. Some say it was built before the town was built.

Bowman is home to two yearly festivals: The Big Iron Crank-Up in April and the Bowman Fall Festival in October.

The Broad River Water Trail flows through the area and offers great paddling for any river enthusiast.
