The construction of cordage and glue by first communities likely represented a significant leap forward for humanity, not unlike learning to make the first tools. Andrew Lee brings significant teaching and practical experience to learning these skills. The Cordage and Glue workshop is usually broken into two 2-hour parts, for four hours of instruction total. Using materials easily accessible in the Southern Appalachian Mountains, students in this class will come away from the morning session with the knowledge and practice necessary to identify plants, prepare and construct cordage. In the afternoon, students will learn to make glue using pine sap, charcoal and dried plant matter. The workshop will culminate in students using their glue and cordage to haft a projectile point onto a river cane handle. This workshop is suitable for ages thirteen and up; students under eighteen must have an accompanying adult present at all times. No prior knowledge of or experience with cordage or glue is necessary.

Admission to the class is $80 each plus $20 materials fee/student, and includes admission to the Foxfire Museum.
