Hammurabi Black History Institute Tours offers a tour of black history for Columbus, Georgia. Included in the tour is a visit to Porterdale Cemetery, also known as “Porterdale Colored Cemetery". Porterdale Cemetery is a narration of Black history in Columbus. It tells the chronological story of a people in bondage, delivered from bondage to freedom through education, entrepreneurship, civil rights, and the arts. Of the more than 360 Black veterans buried in both cemeteries (East and West Porterdale), many served in World Wars I and II. No other cemetery in Columbus, displays the chronology of Black American history of Columbus, Georgia. Porterdale Cemeteries and the Black Americans buried there have a story to tell.
