Roger Corn: Folk Art Pottery

The Folk Pottery Museum of Northeast Georgia is proud to present its latest featured exhibit, Roger Corn: Folk Art Pottery which opened on May 4. The exhibit will be on display until November 3, 2023.

Roger Corn, born and raised in Hall County, currently works out of his home shop in Lula, GA. Corn learned how to turn on the pottery wheel in his thirties when he started working for production pottery businesses like Crocker Pottery and later, Ferguson Family Pottery. Although Corn was originally trained in gardenware pottery, he began to venture out on his own in the mid-1990s, trying his hand at more decorative pieces.

"Roger Corn's work bears the influences of many North Georgia potters such as the Meaders, Crocker, and Ferguson families,” says Emory Jones, Folk Pottery Museum Trustee. “Yet, Roger has incorporated this traditional background into his own unique style, instantly recognizable by collectors. His delicately crafted pigs, fish, and other pieces almost instantly become unique, if not one-of-a-kind masterpieces."

Visitors to the museum can see over 40 pieces of Corn’s work including “Opera Singer” face jugs, intricate teapots, and a hog. The exhibition shows an evolution of his work, from his gardenware beginnings to the eccentric, figural pieces he makes today.

A reception to honor the potter and his work will be held on Friday, May 26 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event is free and open to all. Guests will enjoy live music, light refreshments, and a live interview with the artist. A silent auction will take place, giving attendees the chance to take folk pottery home. Proceeds from the auction go to the Folk Pottery Museum. The museum will also be selling select merchandise such as exclusive John Kollock prints and books related to folk pottery.

The Museum is open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free.
