Summer Watch List: Movies and TV Shows Made in Georgia
School's out for summer! That means that binge-watching and movie-going season is upon us as we cool off in the air conditioning. Mark your calendars for these Georgia-filmed television and movie release dates for June, July and August.
New and Returning Television Series
"Flip or Flop Atlanta," July 20
In the newest spin off of HGTV's home design show, Anita and Ken Corsini purchase and flip houses around Atlanta. The couple, who has been married more than 17 years, met at the University of Georgia. Ken started his real estate business, Red Barn Homes, and when when Anita was pregnant with their first child, she got her real estate license. Expect to see some real fixer uppers in the first season!
"Ozark," July 21
The much-awaited Netflix series was seen filming all over town in the last year. Jason Bateman plays a financial advisor who escapes with his family to the Missouri Ozarks when his business transactions with a drug cartel turn sour. Lake Allatoona and Woodstock were featured, scouted in part by Bateman, who also served as the producer.
In a semi-fictionalized account for the Discovery Channel, "Manhunt" tells of the FBI's 18-year-long search for Ted Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber. Told from the viewpoint of a profiler, the series stars Paul Bettany as Kaczynski, Jane Lynch as Janet Reno, and Sam Worthington as Jim "Fitz" Fitzgerald. Produced by Kevin Spacey's Trigger Street Productions under the name "Manifesto," they used Fort McPherson as a base camp and transformed the old Douglas County Jail into a set.
"All Eyez on Me," June 16
This biopic on the life of Tupac Shakur details the poet and rapper's early days in New York City into the cultural icon he became before his untimely death at age 25. Newcomer Demetrius Shipp Jr. stars alongside "The Walking Dead’s" Danai Gurira and Lauren Cohan and "The Vampire Diaries’" Kat Graham. Filming took place in Douglasville, Duluth, Buckhead, and Norcross. It is set to be released on what would have been Shakur's 46th birthday.
"Baby Driver," June 28
A young getaway driver gets conned into one last job for a crime boss or risk them hurting his girlfriend. Ansel Elgort stars alongside Lily James, Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. Locations around Atlanta can be spotted in the film, including the downtown skyline, Slice Pizza, and Criminal Records. See behind the scenes in this exclusive video from the filming of the movie.
"Spiderman: Homecoming," July 7
After his run-ins with the Avengers in "Captain America: Civil War," also filmed in Georgia, Peter Parker tries to return to his normal life as a high school student in "Spiderman: Homecoming." This is the first standalone film for this incarnation of Spiderman, played by Tom Holland. Filming took place at Fayetteville's Pinewood Studios, downtown Cartersville, and Atlanta’s Grady High School.
"Logan Lucky," August 18
Steven Soderbergh directs this film about two brothers attempting to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race. Adam Driver and Channing Tatum star alongside Daniel Craig, Riley Keough, Katie Holmes and Hilary Swank. Filming took place in Douglasville and in Clayton County as well as Atlanta Motor Speedway and East Atlanta.
