Grammy-nominated musician Brent Cobb was born and raised in Americus, Georgia, about an hour east of Columbus. The singer has been touring all over the world, but there's nowhere he loves more than his home state of Georgia.
In fact, Brent just released "Come Home Soon," a three-part performance series that celebrates both family bonds and the natural beauty of Georgia.
"The 'Come Home Soon' series is my continued love letter to Georgia. I come and go, but it stays the same. It's as constant as the Flint River. I trust it to keep my family safe while I'm gone and to help raise my children right. [Director] Chris [Phelps] stayed on me about locations for different scenes. He couldn't understand that everywhere down there is the perfect shot. You really can't mess it up.
"The moment he pulled up, he got it. Then he made it into a beautiful short movie. We wanted to capture the warmth and spirit of not only the area but also of the people. There's a real light down there. I believe this series lets folks see it the way I do."
Along with clips from the series, here are a few of Brent’s favorite places to visit in southwest Georgia and a few insider tips from Brent himself!
5 of Brent Cobb's Favorite Places in Southwest Georgia
"Providence Canyon is about 45 minutes east of my hometown, Ellaville. It formed after erosion from decades of poor farming practices. Growing up, my buddies and I would go down there to explore and camp. It's a wonderful place to come of age."
"Lake Blackshear is where we relocated to when we moved back to Georgia after living in Nashville for 10 years. The dock my daughter and I are fishing off of is right down the river from my house at a bar and grill called Booger Bottom on Lake Blackshear. I've been going there my whole life. The 'bottom burger' is one of the best burgers in the South!"
"I always say I was born in Americus, sowed my oats in Richland and grew up in Ellaville. Ellaville is home. Like a lot of small towns in Georgia, it reminds you of Mayberry. Little town square, one red light and the best pizza place in southwest Georgia called 'The Pizza Place.'"
Kate's Country Store in Cobb, Georgia
"Kate's Country Store is also right down the road from my house. My dad had a little bass boat when I was growing up, and we'd stop there for fuel and breakfast every morning on the way to fish. It's the kinda place you go to and learn something from the old timers hanging around sipping coffee from Styrofoam cups."
Moe's Produce Peach Stand in Sumter County
"It wouldn't be a proper love letter to my home state without a peach stand! This particular stand is set up every Saturday in the summer right next door to my father-in-law’s shed and hay business off of HWY 19 in Americus."
