Itinerary

Georgia Record Stores

Get on board the vinyl revival by visiting independent record stores across Georgia.

Sure, digital music is ubiquitous, but vinyl is back, and young and old are taking note. In 2015, vinyl sales rose 30 percent over the previous year with nearly 12 million sold. The best news of all is that 45 percent of those sales were made in independent record stores. Take a tour of Georgia's locally owned record stores, each with its own personality and knowledgeable clerks ready to help music fans discover — and re-discover — the joys of vinyl.

The rituals of vinyl are experiences to savor: spending an afternoon in a record store flipping through alphabetically organized albums in categories from "big band" and "blues" to "dance" to "world." You get home with your wares, take a record out of the sleeve, read the liner notes and ultimately, place the album on the turntable. Take in the sequence of the songs, flip the album from side one to side two…this is a true "slow listening" experience.

Get on board the vinyl revival with the itinerary below, visiting independent record stores across Georgia, and listen to our "Georgia Road Trip" playlist.
