5 Winning Wineries in North Georgia

Pair North Georgia's spectacular scenery with tours and tastings at some of the state's award-winning wineries.

  • Tiger Mountain Vineyards

Many people associate Georgia wines with sweet wines made from muscadine grapes and fruits, like peaches and berries. Although there are some outstanding muscadine and fruit wines, visitors may be surprised to learn that North Georgia has been making wines in the European style for hundreds of years.

Commercial wine production began in Georgia in the early 1700s, but it wasn’t until the early 21st century when these wines made the international "Who’s Who" list of wines. Today, there are dozens of award-winning family-owned vineyards lining the back roads of North Georgia, with grapes ripe for the picking.

These vineyards offer tours, wine tastings, and glasses and bottles of wine that you can purchase to sample there or take home to enjoy later. Sit back, relax and sample great North Georgia wine surrounded by the beauty of the mountains any time of year.

Here are just a few of the award-winning wineries in North Georgia worth a trip.

  • Tiger Mountain Vineyards

Tiger Mountain Vineyards is a five-generation-old family farm producing more than 14 acres of vines and grapes that are lovingly turned into several wines on the Tiger Mountain label, including Malbec and Cabernet Franc wines. Call ahead to schedule a tasting and tour. Or, order wine online; they ship all year long.

  • Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery

Achieving Georgia’s first ever Gold medals at the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle and Los Angeles International Wine Competitions, Wolf Mountain Vineyards & Winery has set the bar for East Coast wine production.
