One of the oldest festivals in the state of Georgia is celebrated annually in Cordele-Crisp County, known as the Watermelon Capital of the World for the great number of melons grown, harvested and sold in our community. People from all over Georgia and the Southeast come to participate in the many events that pay tribute to our favorite fruit.
Over three weeks in June, a pageant, dog show, watermelon decorating contest, fishing rodeo, walk, road race and much more are held as part of the festvial. The fourth Saturday is the main festival day, featuring a parade, arts and crafts, melon eating, seed spit and chunking contest, rides for the kids and more.
