Website

A National Historic Landmark, the Lapham-Patterson House is a remarkable monument to the imagination, creative engineering, and craftsmanship of the Victorian era. Known after its construction in 1885 as "Mr. Lapham's Whimsy," visitors to the house soon find that it is indeed an extraordinary home. This Queen Anne-style home is characterized by its unusual asymmetric construction, a stairway with a cantilivered balcony that wraps around a double flue chimney, and its unique safety features and "modern" conveniences of the time. You will also learn the story of the residents of this most amazing "winter cottage."

The Lapham-Patterson House is operated by the Thomas County Historical Society and open for tours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Group tours may be scheduled by appointment. The house is also available for special events. For rates and information, contact the Thomas County Museum of History, 229-226-7664 or history@rose.net.
