Celebrating Appalachian history and culture, the Mountain Heritage Festival Aug. 30 - 31, 2014, features an open-air market with local handicrafts such as handmade brooms, candles, soaps, wood carvings, pottery, honey and garden products. Enjoy performances by bluegrass musicians, gospel groups and cloggers. Sample campfire cooking at the Civil War Camp and watch Native American demonstrations. "Old-ways" games and craft demonstrations of rail/shingle splitting, spinning and quilting also are featured. Free admission. More information at
