Bear on the Square Mountain Festival celebrates Southern Appalachian music, art and culture. Pre-festival events take place on Friday before the weekend event, with jammers on Dahlonega's Historic Public Square during the day and a Live and Silent Country Auction/dinner in the MainStage tent that night.
Free non-stop bluegrass and old-time music concerts take place all day both days of the festival in the MainStage tent. A juried artist market fills the town's historic Public Square with hand made pottery, photography, fok art, wood crafts, fiber crafts and much more. The festival offers a two-day schedule of free workshops, storytelling, food vendors, an open mic event, master classes for musicians, a mountain dance, and a Sunday morning Gospel Jam.
A unique feature of the annual festival is the jamming that goes on all around the square day and night throughout the weekend. Acoustic musicians gather from the across the southeast and beyond to join the jamming community.
