Springfield Baptist Church
The oldest black church in the United States. Founded by African-Americans in 1787, the church stands on its original site and is the oldest church building in the city. Both Morehouse College and the Georgia Republican Party were organized at Springfield Church. Adjacent Springfield Village Park commemorates the legacy and contributions of black Augustans.
Springfield Baptist Church is located at 114 12th St. with the 1801 building at the rear facing Reynolds St. within the boundaries of the Downtown Augusta Historic District.
