Social

On 7 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds in Monroe, stands the historic home of Governor Henry Dickerson McDaniel. Built in 1887, it remained in the family for three generations. The McDaniel-Tichenor families significantly contributed to the social and economic growth of the area.

McDaniel was a Confederate Civil War veteran, who was wounded in battle, captured by Union forces, imprisoned and later paroled. After the war, he built a reputation as a lawyer and businessman. Later, he became known as Georgia's steady-handed governor during the peaceful period between Reconstruction and the turbulent Populist movement at the end of the 19th century.

After serving his state, Governor McDaniel retired to his law practice in Monroe and became the town's wealthiest resident through shrewd investment in railroads and local cotton mills. He also served as a trustee for the University of Georgia for 38 years before his death in 1926.

We provide historical tours and special events to include weddings, bridal showers/luncheons, rehearsal dinners, business parties, or any special event for private rentals as well as our own events.
