Begin hiking the Appalachian Trail in Georgia at Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the 2,200-mile trail through 14 states. Or, from the same starting point, choose to follow the 300-mile Benton MacKaye Trail, which takes hikers deep into remote areas of the Appalachian Mountains. Follow the 61-mile Silver Comet Trail from just outside Atlanta to the Georgia-Alabama state line, stopping in small towns along the way.
